The Green Hornet Film
Scottieholics! Salutations!
I was doing some homework in regards of the Green Hornet franchise. For those who are unaware about the character, I'll give a nice synopsis in regards of the character. The Green Hornet was originally created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker for an American radio program in the 1930s. The character has appeared through different variations in other mediums. Such as film serials in the 1940s, network television in the 1960s, and multiple comic book series from the 1940s to the 1990s. However, in most forms the Green Hornet is Britt Reid, a newspaper publisher by day who by night goes out in his "Green Hornet" identity to fight crime as a masked vigilante, accompanied by his similarly masked servant Kato and driving a car, equipped with advanced technology, dubbed "The Black Beauty".
While I was learning more about the franchise, I learned there is going to be a "Green Hornet" movie set to be released next summer. Upon coming across such information, I thought it would be something cool and something fresh for those who are not familiar with the product. After learning a nice load of details on who would write, direct, and star in the film, I almost my lunch. To quote a certain podcaster, is there anything sacred anymore? For those who wanting know and happens to be a wrestling fan, sign up for the VIP section over at Wrestleview.com. With all of the hard work those guys have been doing, they deserve this plug.
I learned Seth Rogen is going to star as the title character and also share the writing duties with Evan Goldberg. I have nothing against Seth and Evan. They are good writers in their own right. I just feel giving such a serious character as the Green Hornet the comedy treatment is just straight blasphemy. What in the bloody blue hell are those corporate dopes have been smoking? Nothing chides my hide more than a group of educated fools. If that isn't an oxymoron, I don't know what is. Granted, like everyone else, I haven't seen the finished product. Just pulling up my sources and connecting the dots, it doesn't sit well with me at all. I hope what they do to this movie is what Michael almost did to Thriller and that is shelve it!
It really chides my hide when a good movie is remade and turned into a bag of two day old garbage. Let alone a good radio show into a heaping pile of crap. I felt really fortunate to catch the reruns with Van Williams and Bruce Lee. From where I sit, it was good television. Fast forward some decades, you have corporate douches, who should be hanged by their ties at dawn, convince Seth and Evan it's cool to trash a good product and get booed at Comic Con. If that's not career suicide, I don't know what is. I must be really out of touch with the cool crowd. Oh, please someone help me. After all I'm just a kook with a forum.
When I have a book or comic character somewhere down the road and someone wants to turn it into a movie, television show, or whatever, I want to have say over who is to direct, write, star, and etc. Probably down to the wire who should cater food on the set. Well, this conclude my soapbox. If the movie turns out to be the opposite, I will have no qualms of eating my crow. I ate some crows over the years and it's inevitable to eat some more down the road. I will even hop on this site and admit that I was wrong. If it turns out to be a major defecation on the Green Hornet franchise, ah well. 'Til the next entry, arrivederci and godspeed!
